DJ Jayda G shares new dynamic EP

Her first new material since 2019’s debut album “Significant Changes” arrives with a great deal of anticipation—clips floating around online of Jayda teasing ‘Both Of Us’ in her DJ sets quickly led to an influx of messages requesting more information and pleading for an official release. “The response has been overwhelmingly positive,” she says. “I really wondered if releasing the record right now was the right thing to do. Things can feel really fucking depressing at the moment, but the amount of messages I’ve been getting about the track, even during lockdown when people are unable to even be in clubs or at festivals, that really convinced me that now was the right time.”

As with “Significant Changes”—which contains many references to her work studying the environment—on “Both Of Us / Are U Down” Jayda distils her interests and surroundings once more. The resulting EP is a dichotomy of old and new, equal parts nostalgia and of breaking new ground.

‘Both Of Us’ is an upbeat throwback to the dancefloors of the past, drawing on Jayda’s love of classic, uplifting house, the kind she digs for and plays religiously in her DJ sets and during her recent year-long BBC Radio 1 Residency. “I wanted to make a happy house song” she explains, “the uplifting vocal, the slow breakdown, the release, those are a key part of so many of those classic house tracks I’ve found through digging over the years, and I really wanted to emulate the feeling I get from those”

In contrast, ‘Are U Down’ presents a new, slightly grittier and more sombre side to Jayda’s sound, something she attributes to her recent move from Berlin to London and her subsequent immersion into UK dance music culture. The lyrics and title, a reference to the feelings of uncertainty and excitement of exploring something new, could just as easily be applied to the circumstances many of us find ourselves in now.

Both tracks were born out of a meeting with Fred again..—the BRIT Award-winning and Ivor Novello nominated artist who recently collaborated with Headie One, Jamie xx, fka Twigs and Sampha on the ‘GANG’ mixtape. The two quickly struck up a friendship and agreed to get into the studio together. “It’s a nice switch up to have a different energy” says Jayda, “I’d been missing that after the album, which was mostly just me, with Allie (Alexa Dash) on some of the vocals. Working with Fred was great, because I can just be my dorky self and not be judged.”

The EP is completed by two remixes—the ‘Sunset Bliss Mix’ named as another homage to the club remixes of old—and a video for ‘Both Of Us’, shot by Jou Jasmine, was also released alongside the single.

Jayda G’s debut album “Significant Changes” was met with incredible praise from the likes of The Guardian, Mixmag - who made Jayda their ‘cover star’, Pitchfork, Dazed, Resident Advisor, Crack, NME and many more. She followed up the release with a month-long residency at London’s Phonox, the launch of both her science-based interview series ‘JMG Talks’ and new club night ‘JMG Sessions’, and a BBC Essential Mix packed with soul, classic disco and house, before taking up her year-long stint on BBC R1’s Residency show. She also toured relentlessly throughout 2019, taking in shows across 12 countries including performances at Primavera Sound, Kala and Lente Kabinet (Dekmantel's sister event), Glastonbury, Nuits Sonores and Dimensions festivals.

Following her contribution to the Club Quarantäne livestream series, Jayda announced her own ‘Virtual Get Downs’ tour, supporting the venues in which she would have otherwise been playing in Glasgow, Tokyo and San Francisco. She had also been scheduled to appear at this year’s Coachella.

Grammy-nominated DJ Kaskade & duo Chemical Surf collaborate

"Pow Pow Pow", the newest and unprecedented collaboration between the Brazilian duo Chemical Surf and world renowned producer / DJ Kaskade, has arrived via Kaskade’s own label Arkade.

"Pow Pow Pow" is the latest release of the brothers Lucas and Hugo, who have collaborated with one of the biggest names in dance music, the one and only Kaskade. This track is now available on all streaming platforms, presenting explosive bass and drops full of groove.
“We produced the first version of this song in 2017, with Hugo's vocals, but we were not completely satisfied with the instrumental part of it so we never released it. With plenty of time to work in the studio due to the quarantine, we decided to modernize the song with a new drop. We sent the new version to Kaskade, who liked it a lot. So it made sense for him to work on “Pow Pow Pow” along with us. This collaboration has made the track perfect”, explain Lucas and Hugo.

"Pow Pow Pow" is one of those tracks that hits the dancefloor with a very high dose of energy, and through the dancefloors in our homes at this moment. This is possible due to the heavyweight and musical authenticity that the Brazilian duo shows in their production along with Kaskade's experienced perspective.
Formed by the Sanches brothers, Chemical Surf bring new perspectives to production and live shows seeking to subvert rules of electronic music through their motto "R.I.P Genres". The brothers have performed at festivals such as Rock In Rio, Lollapalooza, Ultra Miami, EDC Las Vegas, and Beyond Wonderland.

Chemical Surf have accumulated over 250 million streams on digital platforms, including super hits like “Hey Hey Hey” and “I Wanna Do”. Chemical Surf continue to advance more and more into the international market with collaborations with artists Steve Aoki, Afrojack, and R3HAB on the way. In addition, they recently released the EP Terremoto on Martin Garrix’s STMPD RCRDS.

Grammy-nominated DJ and producer, Kaskade emerged as one of the most successful Progressive House DJs of the 2000s. He has been pioneering the Las Vegas residency concept and performing for hundreds of thousands of people across the United States. With his brilliant dance music hymns, such as "Atmosphere", "Move For Me" and "I Remember", he continues to win fans over worldwide. After several tours in Brazil, Kaskade continues to show his love for the country and its music.

“We've been fans of Kaskade for a long time. We were very happy when he started playing our songs at his shows, so we reached out to him. He then invited us to do something together. Our connection has been strong since the beginning and the three of us are very pleased with the result. It was such an honor to work with Kaskade. We hope to work with him more often”, says Chemical Surf.
Taking a listen to Kaskade & Chemical Surf’s “Pow Pow Pow”, the track is bound to be heard all over dance floor’s soon.

Producer Felix Cartal & singer Sophie Simmons ‘Mine’ music video released

Platinum winning music producer Felix Cartal and celebrated singer Sophie Simmons have shared their official music video for song ‘Mine’.  The video boasts an impressive team behind it, including Director Marc Webb (The Weeknd, Chevy, Vodafone) and Carlee Wallace as art director (Teen Vogue, Marie Claire US, Billboard).

The music video features cuts of flashbacks capturing a couple making the necessary changes to adapt to each other's daily habits. The video breaks cuts between these visuals with the charming songstress Sophie Simmons providing her soaring vocal range.

Felix comments on the video, “The ‘Mine’ music video is a highly stylized interpretation of past lovers and relationships. What often seems mundane and diminished at the time, can become some of the larger things that you cherish most from a previous relationship. The closing scene of the chairs facing opposite directions represents how close you can feel to someone while also being apart. I’ve been obsessed with colour blocking videos, influenced by a lot of the Tyler the Creator and Billie Eilish stuff, I wanted to amplify that vision in my own way, and Carlee Wallace (Art Director) really helped take it to that direction.”

Felix Cartal needs no introduction, named by Billboard as one of 13 Dance Artists who Dominated in 2017 alongside acts like Odesza, Illenium and Marshmello. His previous releases ‘Get What You Give’ and ‘Love Me’ have platinum status in Canada, along with ‘Love Me’ being nominated for Dance Recording of the Year at the Junos 2020.

Captivating vocalist Sophie Simmons is known for her single  ‘Black Mirror’ which debuted on  Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart at Number 43, remaining on the list for several weeks and climbing up to  Number 20 on that chart.

MOTi: “Laura White is such a great talent, on previous productions we only did hooks, I’m happy we finally did a full song. We wrote the record together with Maegan Cottone and Friso Venema in the legendary Metropolis Studios in London. Very happy to work with such talented people and very happy with the final version!”

Laura White: “I am so excited to feat on the new MOTi Single ‘Push It Right’! I loved the original version of ‘Push It’ by Salt-N-Pepa and so this was so cool to have re-written. We all wrote the song together at Metropolis Studios in London, myself ,MOTi, Maegan Cottone and Friso! I loved the day so much with all the gang! I love collabing with MOTi so much and ‘Push It Right’ is my favourite so far!“

Renowned music producer Marcus James shares ‘Honest’

Image: Hayden Gullins

Renowned music producer Marcus James has released his latest single, ‘Honest (with RYYZN)’  via Physical Presents. To date, Marcus James has performed alongside the likes of Robin Schulz, 3LAU, Lost Frequencies, Zeds Dead to name a few. His next release next month includes a remix of Dylan Matthew’s ‘Saturday Night’.

Marcus James shares , “When I wrote the lyrics to Honest I was a little obsessed with capturing the image of the space in between two people as they drift apart from one another. When that space begins to hollow out it feels as if there’s a silent conversation happening, made of everything not being said out loud. There are some autobiographical lines, especially the portrayal of a night spent watching the snowfall and hearing nothing but the sounds of trains and cars. If you listen closely throughout the song you’ll hear some sounds from the train station in the distance that I recorded on my iPhone by sticking my arm out the apartment window.”

‘Honest’  will make you feel emotional highs and lows, and it’s somewhat melancholic lyrical contact that is distracted with its upbeat dancefloor tempo.

EDM producer Mike Mago shares song ‘Recognise’

A danceable beat propels the song forward through swells of bass and glitchy keys. Reaching a crossroads between deep house bliss, progressive scope, and unassuming pop power, the vocals by Tim Powell culminate on the echoes of a catchy confession, “Oh darling I don’t recognise me” before a muscular and magnetic drop.

“Recognise” arrives on the heels of Mago’s latest single “On Repeat” with Kelli-Leigh. Mago graced the cover of Spotify’s “New Dance Revolution'' playlist and claimed a coveted spot on UK’s “New Music Friday” as well as “You Can Do It,” “Ibiza 2020 Deep House, mix, Ocean Beach, Nassau Beach…”  and more playlists. The rising star recently joined NGHTMRE, SOFI TUKKER, Matoma and more as part of the Blockeley Music  Festival—a two-day virtual festival in Minecraft celebrating the recent graduates of UC Berkeley.
