Bank Holiday Friday 8th May 2020  | Various Venues, Nottingham

After debuting to acclaim in 2019, Wigflex City Festival returns on Bank Holiday Friday 8th May 2020 with stunning musical programme, including Craig Richards & Nicolas LutzOcto OctaInstra:mentalSkee Mask, Josey RebelleLena Willikens & Vladimir Ivkovic and more.

Built on the core principle of showcasing Nottingham's incredible potential, unrivalled creative talent and making a lasting change within the community, Wigflex City Festival brought locals, regulars and new recruits together earlier this summer to explore the breathtaking spaces Wigflex has been utilising for over 13 years of raucous parties. With over fifteen of Nottingham's independent venues used in 2019, including Metronome and The Brickworks, Wigflex City Festival 2020 promises more chaotic sets in old Nottingham caves, car parks, basements, hidden streets and out of sight warehouses to ensure that even more of the city is explored by dancers next summer. Never losing sight of its DIY roots, this is a festival strictly on Wigflex's terms, guaranteeing the highest quality parties, a challenging and diverse roster of talks and workshops and a flurry of curveballs across the running time.

Since its inception, Wigflex has become synonymous with consistently booking the most exciting talent across the bill, whether it be bubbling upstarts on the rise or classic heavyweights of the genre, and there's plenty on the festival lineup to exhilarate fans of both. Having delivered legendary set after legendary set, Craig Richards & Nicolas Lutz unite for one that's destined to rank highly in the Wigflex history books, while two members of the electrifying 6 Figure Gang, SHERELLE and L U C Y, are primed to demonstrate why they're considered bass music's brightest hopes, with Yazmin Lacey and Greentea Peng (Live) adding a soulful, welcome change of pace to proceedings. If it's original trailblazers you're seeking, returning drum and bass dons Instra:mental and Wookie have you covered, whereas Giant Swan (Live) serve up pummelling techno cuts from their debut album, alongside Skee MaskdBridgeLena Willikens & Vladimir Ivkovic and Sonja Moonear who promise to explore the darker side of the dance music spectrum.

Once again, Wigflex City Festival pairs mind-melting live shows, from the likes of Oli XLNathan FakeEquinoxx and The Legend of William Onyeabor by Bucky Leo & Black Egypt, with some of the most sublime selectors in the game, including Josey RebelleLeon VynehallOcto OctaJob Jobse and Helena Hauff digging deep across the day and night. Label head Dr Banana steps up to drop garage gems galore, with Manchester figurehead Madam X, the ever-evolving Franceso Del Garda, the breaking GIGI FM and Wigflex royalty Lone adding to the already stacked bill.

Founder Lukas Wigflex says:
"Everyone thought I was bonkers to gamble everything I own on the first festival and I'm still undecided as to whether it was the smartest or dumbest decision I've ever made, but the one thing I've always been 100% set on is that there had to be a second instalment.

The first festival came together in a way that I could have only ever dreamed of...It was like seeing every single thing that I know and love about Nottingham come together in one big beautiful way and to have that experience shared by so many people and artists that I love and respect was just incredible. Putting it into words seems silly, but seeing the whole city come alive was really special and I think it's exactly what Nottingham needs more of, so I'm determined to keep going and making each year more memorable than the last. It's that feeling that's kept me in this game for over 13 years.

The business side of things have been testing, but I'm hoping that all of the lessons and hurdles we've come across have brought about positive growth and I'm so excited for 2020. The support that we've received across the board for this festival has also played a huge part in giving us the confidence to keep going because it's not exactly the best time / climate to be a DIY, independent party promoter...but we've got no plans of stopping any time soon.

With a diverse programme of talks and workshops to be announced soon, tickets for Wigflex City Festival are available now:

Music producer Xanti, Tim Bell & Elenoir released new song ‘Queen Of Love’

French-Italian DJ/Producer Xanti, vocalist Elenoir and LA-based artist Tim Bell have collaborated on new single ‘Queen Of Love’, out now via Polydor Records.

A dark and pulsating track, ‘Queen Of Love’ is topped with an original melody that succeeds in delivering a special twist. It’s based on a sample of Al Bowlly’s 1932 song ‘My Woman’, which later became more popular with White Town’s ‘Your Woman’ in 1997. The track reached #1 in the UK Singles Chart in addition to topping the charts in Sweden and Spain.

By the end of its chart run, the single amassed top 10 placements in over 12 countries including Australia, Ireland, and Italy.  Celebrated as one of the 90s most defining singles, Pitchfork named it as one of their top 200 tracks for the entire decade.

Comprising three different and creative artists, ‘Queen of Love’ marks the second collaboration between Xanti and Elenoir after collaborating on the Maroma project which to date has been streamed over 2 million times. Rounding out the package, the Italian artists teamed up with Tim Bell and ‘Queen Of Love’ was the end result.

Xanti is the alias of Matteo Romano. Since first falling in love with music while touring Italy with his drummer father, he has released tracks on prestigious labels such as Cr2 Records, Armada, Enhanced Music and Disco: Wax. Receiving widespread support and praise from the likes of Hardwell,  Afrojack,  Eddie Halliwell, and Dimitri  Vegas  &  Like  Mike before starting his own Backdoor Music Group label.

Tim Bell’s smooth melodies, dynamic beats, and sleek style has seen him cultivate a status as one of the most respected electronic artists in the US. The haunting ‘Deep Inside’ peaked at #22 in the Deep House charts and was featured by Steve Angello during his BBC Radio 1  residency. ‘Hold  My  Hand’ was Trackitdown’s ‘Featured  Track’ and Radio 105’s ‘Top Tune of the Week’. His soulful rework of Stone Van Brooken’s ’Wrong Way’ rose up the iTunes Top 40 charts in Italy and Germany and to date has been streamed over 750,000 times on Spotify.

Elenoir’s studies in Art, Literature and Philosophy offered the budding singer several sources of inspiration,  while she grew up listening to musicians ranging from Portishead,  Massive  Attack,  Nine  Inch  Nails to  Madonna and  Amy Winehouse. These tastes have combined to inform her own enticing sound - one that Elenoir can only amplify through her ethereal voice. Her previous single ‘This War’ was awarded the 2018 ‘Special Prize’ from one of Italy’s top radio stations, Radio DeeJay.

‘Queen Of Love’ marks the start of what could well be a fruitful creative partnership between three natural talents.

Heed warning from Gidon Schockens latest music video

Israeli producer Gidon Schocken has released the music video for ‘Show Me The Way (feat. Filippo Fabbri, Tahel & Ori Lichtik)’. The track is lifted from his debut album, Immerse via Gidon Schocken Music. Ahead of the album release, Schocken shared ‘Sunn (feat. Afik Doari)’, ‘Show Me The Way’ and ‘Say It Right (Nelly Furtado Cover feat. Tahel)’.

Directed by Stephan Stelman, the music video depicts a torrid love affair between three friends and shows what happens when jealousy gets in the way. Or perhaps it’s a warning to the listener to not get involved in random street brawls. Either way, the effect of the dramatic lighting and harsh facial expressions will sit with the watch long past the video ends. The video features Ben Shamay, Hila Mann, Lev Levin and Ofer Greenberg.

“The track is about the fragility of life, how death can be so sudden and abrupt and how sometimes there's no time to truly say goodbye to a loved one. I’d met up with a good friend for dinner who had told me of a family member’s sudden passing. A few hours later I got back home, worked on the track and added the main synth that comes in around the middle that set the tone for the rest of the song.” He goes on to add “The music video is similar to the story of the track but in a different light. We tried to depict how everything can change in one moment, but in the video, it's a group of friends who get lost in a moment of lust, jealousy and violence.” - Gidon Schocken shares the personal nature of the track.

Along the way, Blinkie has earned radio support from Nick Grimshaw, Scott Mills, MistaJam, Reece Parkinson, Jordan North, and DJ Target.
